Jacob Stein and the Bakery Band Puppets

Jacob is a founding member of The Pop Ups, a renowned musical duo that produces and performs music for families. The group’s first album, Outside Voices, received a National Association of Parenting Publications Award (NAPPA) for Best Music, was nominated for a GRAMMY Award, and is on the Top Ten of 2010 lists of the Washington Post, TimeOut New York Kids, the Kids and Family Awards, Out with the Kids and Zooglobble. The Pop Ups also won a Parents’ Choice Award for their contribution to the Craig Taubman curated album, Celebrate Jewish Lullabies. They have toured with Yo Gabba Gabba Live and performed at venues nationwide, including the Kennedy Center and the Beacon Theatre.

As a puppeteer, Jacob has created and performed a series of shows celebrating Jewish holidays. His Hanukah puppet musical, The Hammer & The Candle, premiered at Stephen Wise Synagogue in 2007. Jacob’s Passover musical, The Mystery of the Disappearing Afikoman, was commissioned by the Jewish Community Project and first performed at the Museum of the Holocaust at Battery Park in 2008.
