On October 3rd, he declared \u201cThursday the Twenty-sixth Day of November next\u201d as a day of thanksgiving. On that day, the first Thanksgiving sermon was given by the Reverend Gershom Seixas in the \u201cSynagogue in this City\u201d Shearith Israel.
