He was a close friend of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Stefan_george\" target=\"_blank\">Stefan George<\/a> and a member of a group of writers called the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Munich_Cosmic_Circle\" target=\"_blank\">Munich Cosmic Circle<\/a>. His later poems, including \u201cHerr! Ich will zur\u00fcck zu Deinem Wort!\u201d were considered a response to the events of 1933. Like many German-Jews, Wolfskehl was conflicted by his sense of self as a German and Jew in an increasingly anti-Semitic society.
