From the Spanish Inquisition to the Present: A Search for Jewish Roots, presented by Genie Milgrom

Genie Milgrom will discuss her unparalleled work of genealogy, documenting an unbroken maternal lineage back to 1480in Pre-Inquisition Spain and Portugal. Born in Havana, Cuba, to a Roman Catholic family of Spanish ancestry, Genie wasalways interested in her family genealogy, but when she learned of the possibility of having Converso Jewish roots, her search for the truth about her family’s past took on a deeper significance.

Genie Milgrom is the past president of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Greater Miami and president of both the Tarbut Sefarad-Fermoselle in Spain and the Society for Crypto-Judaic Studies at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs.

The author of My Fifteen Grandmothers and How I Found My Fifteen Grandmothers, A Step by Step Guide, which won the 2015 Latin Author Book awards, she was also recognized with the State of Florida Genealogy Award for her pioneering work in family history research.

Prior to the meeting, Join the Jewish Genealogical Society of New York 12:30 in the Kovno Room and bring your lunch. Genie Milgrom will be there to talk about Sephardic genealogy and Spanish and Portuguese citizenship.

Admission: Jewish Genealogical Society members free, guests $5 at the door
